I lived in San Diego for 12 years, and what I miss most is that nearly year-round perfect weather — comfortable, breezy, and just right. If you’re like me and chase that perfect climate, here’s a month-by-month guide to destinations hitting that sweet spot.


January

Los Cabos, Mexico

  • Average High: 78°F
  • Rainfall: Less than 0.5 inches (very rare)
  • Sea Temperature: Approximately 73°F
  • Why it’s great: Gorgeous beaches and great whale watching season.
  • Don’t miss: Catch the sunrise at the Arch of Cabo San Lucas for epic photos.
  • Restaurant to try: Sunset Monalisa is perched on a cliff with stunning panoramic views of the Sea of Cortez. It serves up Mediterranean-inspired food and is perfect for a romantic dinner, especially at sunset. The vibe is stylish and unforgettable.

Cancun/Playa del Carmen, Mexico

  • Weather: Average high around 78°F, low rainfall, and 7-8 hours of sunshine per day
  • Don’t miss: Take a day trip to Isla Mujeres to snorkel with sea turtles.
  • Where to stay: If you want something special, I’d recommend the Banyan Tree in Playa del Carmen. It’s right on the beach, villas have private pools, and it feels like a little escape.
  • Don’t miss dinner: HAAB — an intimate outdoor dining experience nestled in the jungle, seating only 12 guests. Enjoy a multi-course menu paired with fire, traditional Mayan dancers, and live music that makes for an unforgettable cultural feast.

  • Why visit: Explore misty cloud forests, spot incredible wildlife, and unwind surrounded by lush greenery.
  • Don’t miss: Try zip-lining through the cloud forest canopy or take a guided birdwatching tour. Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is a must for nature lovers.
  • Where to stay: Hotel Belmar — a luxurious 5-star eco-lodge offering stunning views, fine dining, and personalized nature experiences.

Marrakech, Morocco

  • Average High: ~77°F. It’s one of the most comfortable months before summer heat.
  • Why go: Colorful souks, desert excursions, and great weather.
  • Don’t miss: Enjoy a rooftop dinner with views over Jemaa el-Fnaa square, then take a sunset camel ride for a classic Marrakech experience.
  • Don’t miss restaurant: Comptoir Darna is Marrakech’s hottest dining spot, where great food meets a sultry, atmospheric vibe perfect for an unforgettable night out. One of my favorite restaurants ever!
  • Hotel in the medina: If you opt to stay in this area, I recommend Riad AndallaSpa, a charming boutique riad offering peaceful gardens, traditional Moroccan architecture, and a small, but nice spa.

April

Seville, Spain

  • Daytime highs: Mid-70s°F
  • Why visit: Historic charm and orange blossom-scented streets. Seville is an absolute gem! Not to be missed when visiting Spain.
  • Don’t miss: Experience a traditional flamenco show in a local tablao.
  • Tip: Avoid Holy Week (Semana Santa) which draws large crowds and can make popular sites very busy.

Maui, Hawaii

  • Why visit: Gorgeous beaches, waterfalls, and beautiful landscapes.
  • Weather: Daytime highs average around 75–77°F and relatively low rainfall compared to winter months.
  • Crowds: Lower than peak winter and summer seasons, making it easier to enjoy beaches and attractions.
  • Sea Temperature: Around 77°F — perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
  • Don’t miss: Drive the scenic Road to Hana for unforgettable views.
  • Where to stay: The Four Seasons Maui at Wailea is my top pick if you want to treat yourself — it’s right on the water and just feels really relaxing.

Tenerife, Canary Islands

  • Why visit: Enjoy great weather and blooming landscapes—perfect for outdoor adventures.
  • Don’t miss: Catch the sunrise from Mount Teide for unforgettable views, then explore the unique volcanic trails and charming villages around the island.
  • Typical Weather: Average 74°F — right in the sweet spot, sea temp around 70°F and low rainfall.
  • Fewer Crowds: Easter holidays may bring a small spike, but overall it’s less crowded than winter (Jan–Feb) or summer (Jul–Aug).

Dubrovnik, Croatia

  • Weather: Late May offers pleasant warm days in the low to mid 70s°F, perfect for sightseeing and enjoying outdoor cafes before the summer heat and crowds arrive.
  • Tip: This is an ideal time to book accommodations and enjoy the city without the high-season prices.
  • Amazing Restaurant: Be sure to take the funicular up to Restaurant Panorama and enjoy a great dinner with stellar views over Dubrovnik.

Napa Valley, California

  • Why visit: Vineyards and gourmet dining.
  • Don’t miss: Bike through scenic wine country trails, visit renowned wineries like Robert Mondavi and Domaine Carneros, and dine at farm-to-table restaurants featuring local produce. Also, if you get the chance, take a hot air balloon ride for stunning views over the vineyards.
  • Where to stay: Meadowood Napa Valley is where I’d go for a peaceful stay surrounded by the vines.
  • Weather: May brings warm, sunny days with temps in the mid to high 70s°F, absolutely perfect for exploring vineyards and enjoying outdoor wine tastings amid spring blooms.

June

San Sebastián, Spain

August

Monterey, California

  • Don’t miss:  Explore the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, walk or bike the 17-Mile Drive for coastal views, and visit the charming town of Carmel-by-the-Sea nearby. Also, take a whale-watching tour — summer is prime season for humpbacks and blue whales.
  • Weather: July in Monterey offers comfortable mid 70s°F days with cool ocean breezes — perfect for coastal hikes. This is the heart of the California coast’s “natural air conditioning,” so it’s never too hot. Mornings can often be foggy, clearing to sun by afternoon, while evenings are cooler, so pack layers.
  • Crowds: July is peak season, so expect some tourist traffic, especially on weekends.

Seattle, Washington

  • Weather: August is Seattle’s warmest, sunniest month, with daytime highs in the mid to high 70s°F and very low humidity — perfect for enjoying the city’s parks, waterfront, and mountain views. Locals call this the “magic window” — summer without the rain.
  • Don’t miss: Stroll through Pike Place Market, ride the Seattle Great Wheel for views of Puget Sound, rent a paddleboard or sailboat on Lake Washington or take a ferry to Bainbridge Island for a great day trip.

Madeira, Portugal

  • Crowds: September offers a quieter atmosphere compared to peak summer months, making it an ideal time to explore Madeira’s natural beauty in peace.
