I’m so excited to be going back to visit Banyan Tree Mayakoba again in November. This tropical paradise has become our little haven for relaxation. But before I delve into our experiences at Banyan Tree Mayakoba, allow me to tell you all about Mayakoba.
Mayakoba
Mayakoba is a sprawling resort development encompassing 620 acres along the picturesque Riviera Maya coastline in Playa del Carmen. Its breathtaking landscape boasts diverse ecosystems like mangrove forests, serene lagoons, pristine white-sand beaches, and lush jungles. The meticulously preserved environment is seamlessly integrated into the resort experience. Within this idyllic setting, you’ll find Banyan Tree, as well as three other world-class resorts: Rosewood Mayakoba, Fairmont Mayakoba, and Andaz Mayakoba. While each resort retains its distinct character and offerings, they are harmoniously interconnected within the Mayakoba complex. Guests are allowed the flexibility of staying at one resort while enjoying the amenities and dining experiences of others.
Mayakoba offers shared facilities accessible to guests from any of the resorts, such as the El Camaleón Golf Course, the Mayakoba Tennis Center, and the Mayakoba Beach Club. Complimentary transportation options, including shuttles, water taxis, and bicycles, facilitate effortless exploration between resorts and various amenities. Additionally, with its location along the Riviera Maya, Mayakoba offers convenient access to nearby attractions, including the Tulum ruins, enchanting cenotes, and downtown Playa del Carmen.
Concerning safety, our experiences at Banyan Tree Mayakoba have always been underlined by a strong sense of security. The resort complex implements rigorous security protocols. This includes a gated entrance, where security personnel monitor incoming and outgoing traffic, ensuring the identity of all visitors and guests.
Now, let’s dive into the tropical oasis that is Banyan Tree Mayakoba, a place I genuinely adore!
The accommodations at Banyan Tree Mayakoba are nothing short of spectacular. We always opt for the Serenity Pool Villa, and let me tell you, it’s a paradise within paradise. Here are some key highlights of the Serenity Pool Villa:
Outdoor Bliss
The villa and courtyard are set behind walls and dense vegetation, creating a tranquil oasis and shielding guests from view. The outdoor space is the crown jewel of this retreat, with a private pool, jacuzzi, sun loungers, and a dining table. Of course, it also has a comfy hammock for those lazy afternoons. It’s a very secluded and peaceful retreat. Plus, each villa includes two bicycles, perfect for exploring Mayakoba surroundings.
Spacious Living Room
The indoor space consists of two separate structures. The living room features an oversized sofa and dining table, as well as a kitchenette with a mini refrigerator and microwave. This space has become our morning haven, especially for an early riser like Brian. He can slip out of bed, walk across the courtyard to the living room, have breakfast and make as much noise as he pleases without waking me (and believe me, I appreciate that!). Additionally, we find the kitchenette handy because it allows us to stock up on snacks, breakfast items, and of course, cocktail essentials!
Beautiful Bedroom and Bath
The second living space encompasses the bedroom, bathroom, a well-equipped wet bar, and a spacious walk-in closet. The bedroom is a haven of natural light, with two walls of windows. One side opens to a serene hammock area, while the other grants direct access to the pool – you can literally sit in your bedroom with your feet in the pool! The bathroom is a luxurious retreat with a rain shower and a double-sided vanity offering ample space for toiletries. A generously sized walk-in closet adds to the convenience. The interiors blend modern amenities with traditional Mexican elements, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
Bonus Space
The bathroom opens up to a private outdoor space, complete with an oversized bathtub surrounded by a wall of candles – the epitome of romance!
The accommodations at Banyan Tree Mayakoba have been thoughtfully designed to offer the utmost privacy and luxury. It’s an ideal choice for couples seeking a romantic getaway.
The resort’s accommodations options cater to both couples seeking an intimate retreat, as well as larger groups looking for a luxurious experience. Couples can opt for cozy private villas, offering romantic seclusion with amenities like personal plunge pools and lush garden views. For larger groups or families, the resort’s spacious multi-bedroom villas provide a perfect blend of togetherness and privacy, each featuring separate bedrooms, living areas, and expansive outdoor spaces.

Our favorite off-property restaurants in Mayakoba are:

La Fondita, nestled within, offers a casual dining experience, featuring authentic Mexican street food flavors. - Casa del Lago: Located at Rosewood Mayakoba, this open-air waterfront restaurant has great food and views of the lagoon. The menu features fresh seafood, prime cuts of meat, homemade pasta, and an extensive wine selection. Casa del Lago offers impeccable service, making it an exceptional dining choice in Mayakoba.
