London is a city brimming with endless things to see and do, and while there are countless attractions to explore, here are ten favorites that you definitely shouldn’t miss. Each offers a unique slice of what makes this city so special.

• Buckingham Palace – A visit to Buckingham Palace offers a quintessential London experience, especially if you catch the Changing of the Guard ceremony. This traditional event takes place outside the palace gates, where the Household Cavalry and Foot Guards in their red uniforms and bearskin hats perform a meticulously choreographed handover. The ceremony usually occurs daily in summer and every other day in winter, so it’s worth arriving early to grab a good spot. The palace itself, with its impressive façade and surrounding gardens, is a sight to behold, and if you visit during the summer, you might also get the chance to tour the State Rooms and experience a slice of royal grandeur.

• The Tower of London – One of my favorite spots in London, the Tower of London is absolutely fascinating. This historic castle has been everything from a royal palace to a prison and even a treasury over the centuries. When you visit, you’ll get to see the Crown Jewels, which are the official treasures used in British coronations. It’s really something to see! You can also join a tour led by the Beefeaters, who are full of great stories about the Tower’s past. Make sure to check out the White Tower, the oldest part of the castle, where you can learn more about its history and see some impressive old armor. It’s a great place to dive into Britain’s royal past and definitely worth a visit.

• Gourmet Dinner with City Views – If you’re looking for a unique dining experience in London, the Bustronome London dinner is a fantastic choice. You get to enjoy a delicious meal while cruising around the city in a sleek, glass-topped bus. As you dine, you’ll see famous landmarks like the London Eye, Tower Bridge, and Buckingham Palace through panoramic windows, making for a constantly changing backdrop. • The London Eye – You’ve got to ride the London Eye if you’re in town—it’s an absolute highlight! You’ll get some of the best views of London as you slowly ascend in the giant Ferris wheel. Trust me, it’s a fantastic way to soak in the city’s skyline and make some great memories.

The architecture is absolutely stunning, and seeing Big Ben’s clock tower up close is something you won’t forget. If you’re interested in government and history, visit The Houses of Parliament where you can explore historic areas like the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and get a behind-the-scenes look at where UK politics happens. Tours are available when Parliament isn’t in session. It’s a great way to dive into London’s rich history and see one of the city’s most famous landmarks.

• Camden Market – Camden Market is a must-visit if you’re looking for a lively and eclectic experience. When you’re exploring London, getting around is pretty easy and there are several great options to choose from. First off, the London Underground (or Tube) is a fast and efficient way to cover large distances quickly. With a network that reaches almost every corner of the city, it’s perfect for getting from one landmark to another.

While I prefer the tube, buses are also a widely available option. They’re not only affordable but also provide a great view of the city as you travel. The iconic red double-decker buses are a London staple and a great way to initially get your bearings is this big city.

If you’re planning to explore a lot, it’s worth picking up an Oyster card.

I would not recommend self-driving in London. First, it is not really necessary given the extensive network of public transportation. Second, the city is busy, parking is tough to find and often expensive, and the traffic can be a challenge, especially if you’re used to driving on the right side of the road. Stick to public transport and you’ll find it’s the easiest and most enjoyable way to get around.

Understand Public Transport – London’s public transport system is extensive and efficient. The Tube (subway) is a quick way to get around, and using an Oyster card or contactless payment can save you money on fares. Buses and trains are also convenient options.

Plan for Weather – London’s weather can be unpredictable, so it’s a good idea to carry an umbrella and dress in layers. Even in summer, temperatures can vary, and rain is always a possibility.

Check Opening Hours – Many attractions, museums, and restaurants have varying hours and may be closed on certain days. Be sure to check ahead for opening times and any necessary bookings, especially for popular sites like the British Museum or the London Eye.

Make Dining Reservations – Popular restaurants and eateries in London can get busy, especially during peak times. To avoid disappointment, it’s a good idea to make reservations in advance, particularly if you have specific places in mind or are visiting during peak dining hours.

Be Mindful of Tourist Spots – Iconic sites like Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, and the Houses of Parliament are must-sees, but they can also be crowded. Visiting early in the day or later in the afternoon might help you avoid long lines.

Stay Safe and Aware – London is generally safe, but it’s always good to stay aware of your surroundings. Keep an eye on your belongings, especially in crowded areas, and be cautious when crossing roads (look right).

Explore Different Neighborhoods – Each area of London has its own charm. Explore neighborhoods like Camden for its markets, Covent Garden for street performances, and Notting Hill for its colorful houses and boutiques.
