Italy is generally a safe. I’ve traveled all throughout Italy and have never felt unsafe. With that being said, be very aware of pick pockets in popular tourist areas. My husband and I thwarted a situation in which we were being set up by a group of pick pockets, but my friend Sheri was not as lucky and had her wallet stolen on a train. Don’t wear a backpack, don’t keep your wallet in your back pocket, and be sure to keep your handbag on your front side. Better yet, be extra careful and get a unisex anti-theft handbag.
