In recent years, Croatia has emerged as a popular tourist destination, captivating travelers from around the world. My first visit was in 2021, and I instantly fell head over heels in love with the country. Every town we visited was stunningly beautiful, and the people were warm and friendly. We are already planning a return trip in 2026 to explore more of this enchanting country. Croatia truly has it all. Here’s a little more about this remarkable destination…..

Coastline and Islands: Croatia boasts a stunning coastline along the Adriatic Sea, featuring crystal-clear waters, picturesque islands, and charming coastal towns. The Dalmatian Coast is particularly renowned for its beauty and is a major draw for tourists. The coastal areas have a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters.

Medieval Towns: The country is dotted with charming medieval towns such Trogir, and Korčula, each with its own unique character and history. We especially loved Rovinj, a picture-perfect waterfront town that is a great base for exploring Istria.

Central Croatia and Mountain Region: Central Croatia is home to Zagreb, the nation’s capital city. Zagreb offers a vibrant urban experience with museums, galleries, and historic architecture. The surrounding mountainous region is perfect for nature lovers and adventurers, featuring the stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park, known for its breathtaking waterfalls and lush landscapes.

Historical Heritage: Croatia has a rich history that’s reflected in its architecture, museums, and archaeological sites. Cities like Dubrovnik and Pula showcase Roman, Venetian, and medieval influences. Don’t miss a visit to Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site, located in the heart of Split and one of the best-preserved Roman monuments in the world.
Friendliness of Locals: This is something we noticed over and over again — Croatians are genuinely kind and welcoming. Whether we were chatting with locals in cafés or asking for directions, everyone made us feel at home.
Getting Around: Croatia is easy to explore once you get the hang of it:
- Driving is often the best way to explore at your own pace — especially if you want to visit Istria, Plitvice, or smaller coastal towns. The roads are well-maintained, and signage is good.
- Ferries are essential if you’re visiting the islands. Jadrolinija and Krilo offer regular routes from Split, Dubrovnik, and Zadar to places like Hvar, Korčula, and Brač.
- Buses are reliable and affordable for getting between major cities and towns. Companies like Flixbus, Arriva, and Croatia Bus run regular routes.
- Domestic flights can save time if you’re traveling longer distances (for example, from Zagreb to Dubrovnik).
- Walking: Most old towns are pedestrian-only and made for wandering. Bring comfy shoes and enjoy getting lost in the best way.
Plenty of Adventure: If you love the outdoors, Croatia is a goldmine. Kayak along the coast, hike through Krka or Paklenica National Park, cycle through Istrian wine country, or go cliff jumping in Hvar. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure destination.

You’ll Want to Go Back Again and Again
Prime Location: Croatia enjoys a geographical location that grants travelers easy access to an array of neighboring countries. The vibrant city of Budapest is just a short journey away. It has easy access to the beautiful cities of Bosnia and Montenegro, while a direct ferry from Rovinj to Venice is a quick gateway to Italian allure. Or consider embarking on a few hours’ drive to the charming city of Ljubljana, and its picturesque counterpart, Lake Bled.
You’ll Want to Go Back: I’ve traveled to more than 20 countries in Europe, and Croatia is absolutely in my top 3. The islands are breathtaking, Istria is deliciously dreamy, Plitvice is beyond magical, and Dubrovnik is just… dazzling. If you’re thinking about going and have questions, drop them in the comments — I’m always happy to help.
There is SO much to see and do in Croatia. So, what are you waiting for? Book your ticket, pack your bags, and go soak up the magic.
