Dining at JW Steakhouse in London

Brian and I were staying at the JW Grosvenor House, so we thought it’d be convenient to dine at JW Steakhouse, the hotel’s restaurant. We enjoyed it so much that we went back for a second visit. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect when dining at JW Steakhouse:

Menu Highlights

The steak selection is impressive. They offer several cuts, like rib-eye, filet mignon, and a huge Tomahawk steak for sharing if you’re up for it. The menu also includes some non-steak options like lobster tail or rack of lamb. They have a good selection of appetizers—think along the lines of classic shrimp cocktails, calamari and crab cake. They serve mac and cheese, which is one of my absolute faves, but I resisted. Parker House rolls were also served up, and those I did not resist.

Cocktail Specialties

The cocktail menu has a solid range of choices. Their specialty is the Old Fashioned, with options for classic, smoked, and aged versions. Brian and I went for the smoked Old Fashioned, and it was excellent. They also have a great selection of wines and champagnes if you’re in the mood for something else.

Atmosphere

The vibe at JW Steakhouse is elegant but not overly formal. The decor has a traditional steakhouse feel with dark wood paneling and leather seats, but it’s also cozy and inviting. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a nice dinner with friends or have a romantic meal with your partner.

Service

The service is top-notch. Our server was friendly and well-informed about the menu, which was really helpful when faced with so many tempting options. She was attentive but never intrusive. I had a great moment when I mentioned to our server how much I liked the copper mug I was using; she left the table and returned with a brand new one, all boxed up. Our server was not only excellent but also funny and knowledgeable—everything you could hope for in great service.

Location

Located in the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, the location is pretty central. It’s in a posh area, so you’re close to other landmarks and attractions in Mayfair if you want to explore before or after your meal. It’s also convenient if you’re staying at the hotel or in the surrounding area.
