Bosnia and Herzegovina is a destination with plenty to offer! Sarajevo, the capital, is a fascinating city with a blend of Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and Yugoslav influences. The old bazaar, Bascarsija, is a great place to explore, pick up unique souvenirs, and enjoy a cup of Bosnian coffee.
Mostar is another highlight, famous for its stunning Stari Most bridge. While we were there, we even saw some brave folks diving off the bridge into the river below. The town’s charming, old-world feel adds to the experience.
For nature lovers, Bosnia offers some spectacular spots. Places like Sutjeska National Park and Una National Park boast breathtaking landscapes with waterfalls and lush greenery.
Bosnian cuisine is hearty and delicious—make sure to try cevapi (grilled minced meat) and sarma (cabbage rolls), and don’t skip the baklava for dessert!
A quick tip: the local currency is the convertible mark (BAM). It’s good to have some cash, although ATMs are common. The country is quite affordable compared to other European destinations. While English is not always widely spoken, especially in smaller towns, learning a few phrases in Bosnian can be useful.
Overall, Bosnia and Herzegovina is rich in history, natural beauty, and warm hospitality. It’s definitely worth considering for your travel adventures!
