If you’re looking for a charming spot to stay in Solothurn, the La Carounne Hotel, nestled in the city center his picturesque Swiss town, is a great choice.
La Carounne is a historic hotel located just a short stroll from Solothurn’s charming old town, where you can wander through cobbled streets and visit the charming little shops. The hotel is also close to the Aare River, a lovely place to go for a walk in the morning or early evening. The impressive Cathedral of St. Ursus and the Clock Tower are both must-sees while you’re in town. When you’re in Solothurn, there’s so much to keep you busy! You can check out the Kunstmuseum for some local art, or if you’re up for a little outdoor excursion, the Jura mountains are nearby, offering some fantastic hiking trails with fabulous views. And if you feel like venturing out, Biel/Bienne is just a quick 30-minute train ride away—perfect for an easy day trip!
The guest rooms are super cozy and inviting. The beds are comfy with soft, high-quality bedding, and the decor is modern but still warm. It’s a great place to kick back and relax!
While La Carounne is a smaller hotel, there’s a fitness area if you want to keep up with your workout routine. And if you’re in the mood to unwind, there is a lovely little spa.
The hotel has an on-site restaurant that consistently serves up good food. Hotel restaurants can sometimes be hit-or-miss, but this place is a fantastic place for breakfast and dinner. The breakfast spread is impressive. My husband is a big fan of their Entrecôte steak—it’s so delicious and a must-try!
One funny little tidbit about La Carounne is that they’ve got Napoleon’s hotel bill framed on the wall. Apparently, he left without paying! I guess he was too busy plotting his next big move to settle the tab—maybe they should start charging him interest.😊 Who knew skipping out on your bill was a thing back in the early 1800’s!
Overall, La Carounne is a great choice. The combination of comfortable rooms, friendly service, and a great location made it a perfect base for exploring Solothurn. Whether you’re visiting for a romantic getaway or a fun trip with friends, La Carounne is definitely worth considering. It’s a cozy retreat that adds a little charm to your Swiss adventure!
