As our driver pulled into the driveway at Aenaon Villas, Dennis (the “go to guy” for anything you need) was waiting for us at the curb with a big smile. Our flight had been delayed a bit, so he must have been standing out there waiting for us for at least 30 minutes. He escorted us on to the property and to the reception area where the owners, George and Alexandra, were standing in the doorway awaiting our arrival as well. After sitting down and chatting with them for a bit, George took us for a tour of the property and then on to our villa where they had a bottle of wine and a heart-shaped cake waiting for us. It was such a warm welcome and was just the start of how wonderful and accommodating they would be throughout our stay.
Aenaon Villas features seven distinctly designed villas. Our accommodation during our stay was Villa Elidami, a private villa set apart from the rest of the villas, located on the highest point of the property for maximum privacy. The villa is gorgeous, decorated in all white with very minimalist décor, and features a loft bedroom, fireplace, oversized sofa, and large veranda with private pool. The other six villas share the main pool and common terrace. This area is absolutely beautiful as well. We never saw more than two couples out there at a time, so while not totally private, almost so.
It is clear that George and Alexandra take great pride in making sure everything is top notch for their guests. Alexandra arranged car service for us every night to take us to and from dinner (and always managed to get us the best tables). We mentioned wanting to rent quad bikes for a day and she had them delivered to the property a short time later. I had made reservations to attend a theatre performance in Fira during our stay. I mentioned this to Alexandra in e-mail correspondence prior to our arrival (nothing for her to do, I just mentioned it). When we arrived at the theatre, they told me that our hotel had called twice to make sure our reservation was in place. Even though she wasn’t involved in coordinating it, she went out of her way to make sure everything was in order. I was not surprised by this, as they seem to always go the extra mile.
Breakfast, which is included in your stay, can be served in your villa or outside on the veranda. Of course we opted for the veranda every day!! They take your breakfast order the evening before, and it is served promptly the next morning at the time of your liking.
Located in Imerovigli, just under 2 miles from the hub town of Fira, Aenaon Villas sit atop a steep cliff with views that are incredibly hard to describe in words. It is especially stunning at sunset, when the Aegean Sea sparkles like a vivid blue diamond. To the south you see Fira, with its iconic, white-washed buildings. To the north is Oia, backlit by the glowing horizon, so much so that even though it is 5 miles away, we could see the impressions of the people walking along the cliffs. Directly in front of the villa is the caldera (volcano) and the endless horizon beyond. It was so breathtaking, that I felt a bit overwhelmed and emotional. It struck me how incredibly fortunate I was to experience this. I can honestly say beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I’ve never experienced a more beautiful place in my life.
If you have the good fortune to visit Santorini, I HIGHLY recommend staying at Aenaon Villas. It is a fabulous hotel, only made better by the outstanding service and unbeatable views.
