If you’re visiting the island and searching for the best restaurants in Santorini, you’re in for a treat. From seafood by the water in Oia to clifftop dining in Fira, Santorini serves up more than just postcard views. In this post, I’m sharing two standout spots that combine amazing meals with incredible ambiance.
Ammoudi Fish Tavern
As a kid, I was a super picky eater. I lived on Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, tomato soup, and Cheerios. If I was asked to eat something like asparagus, I would refuse or swallow it like a pill. While I have greatly expanded my palette since then, I still wouldn’t consider myself an adventurous eater. So, when we arrived at Ammoudi Fish Tavern and saw the octopus drying in the sun, my reaction was “eww, yuck!” Twenty minutes later, my husband, a more adventurous eater, had the octopus appetizer sitting in front of him. After he raved about how delicious it was, I reluctantly agreed to try a tiny bite. Then I had another tiny bite. And another. Before I knew it, we were ordering a second plate of the octopus appetizer.

Needless to say, the food at Ammoudi was fantastic. Along with the delectable octopus, we shared the fresh catch of the day (Grouper, if I remember correctly) and a Greek salad sprinkled with fresh, melt-in-your-mouth feta cheese, and capers three times the size of the ones we get back home.
In addition to the great food, the restaurant’s location is fabulous. It sits in a primo spot on the water’s edge of the Ammoudi Bay in Oia. Our hotel had secured us a great table, and our arrival just before dusk meant we were treated to another spectacular Santorini sunset. Having seen all of the sunsets from a vantage point high up in the cliffs of Fira, it was nice to enjoy the view at sea level.
So, if you’re visiting Santorini and looking for the perfect spot for a memorable meal, make a reservation at Ammoudi Fish Tavern. Whether you’re a foodie or simply seeking a picturesque dining experience, Ammoudi has both delicious dishes and a memorable ambiance.
Volcano Blue
Perched among the white-washed buildings on the cliffs of Fira, you’ll find Volcano Blue. The restaurant exudes serene vibes with its baby blue tables and walls painted with fish in shades of blue. As far as decor, Volcano Blue got it right. I supposed the stunningly fabulous views of the caldera and the sea shimmering below, also help enhance the perfect ambiance.

Despite the many dining options in Santorini, we’ve returned to Volcano Blue three times, a rarity for us on vacation. This speaks to the restaurant’s special allure. It’s the perfect combination of a tranquil, scenic setting with friendly, knowledgeable staff and excellent food.

Standout menu items include the fresh sea bass, seafood pasta and the Greek salad. I am a sucker for a good Greek salad! I find that in Greece, the feta is creamier, and the tomatoes are the best you’ll find anywhere. Volcano Blue serves up an excellent one.
