Planning a London trip and trying to figure out the best place to stay? Location is everything, especially if you want to make the most of your time. These neighborhoods are centrally located, close to major attractions, and well-connected by the Tube so you can get around without a hassle.
Here’s how I’d rank them based on my experience for atmosphere, location and convenience:
1. Covent Garden
- Why stay here: Covent Garden is as central as it gets. You’re steps away from major sights, theaters, dining, and shopping. It’s a no-brainer for soaking up London’s energy and getting around easily.
- Close to: West End theaters, Trafalgar Square, Somerset House, the Royal Opera House, and just a short walk to the British Museum in neighboring Bloomsbury.
- Vibe: Lively, trendy, and buzzing with energy. Expect street performers, boutique shops, and packed restaurants. It’s busy but in the best way.
- Best for: Really anyone! But it’s great for first-time visitors who are getting their bearings and want everything at their doorstep.

- NoMad London: This is a Covent Garden gem is located near the Royal Opera House. The hotel is the former magistrate’s court and five-star design haven. Plus, they serve a lovely afternoon tea in a beautiful glass roofed atrium.

- The Resident Covent Garden: Is a gem just a short walk from Covent Garden. This property gets STELLAR reviews, providing great value, an excellent location, and it’s a little oasis of calm right in the heart of London.

- Restaurant 1890 by Gordon Ramsay – Upscale French-inspired dining by Gordon Ramsay. Perfect for special occasions with dishes like beef Wellington.
- Dishoom Covent Garden – Loved by locals and celebs and serving great Bombay comfort food.
2. Westminster
- Why stay here: You’re steps away from iconic landmarks and grand government spots that scream London!
- Close to: Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament.
- Vibe: Historic and classic London feel, but quiet when the sun dips.
- Best for: Sightseeing junkies and history nerds who want to soak up all things London.

- St. Ermin’s Hotel: The hotel is located in an old Victorian building and is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. Back in WWII, it was a hush-hush spot for British spies, which is kinda cool! Plus, it’s got sleek rooms, a cute courtyard and bees on the roof. Total gem!

Nearby Restaurants
- Mio Restaurant: Mio’s serves excellent pizza, calzones and pasta dishes. It’s a small authentic Italian restaurant with a casual atmosphere.
- JW Steakhouse: Excellent steaks and top-notch service—we’ve eaten here twice, and it never disappoints. They also have one of the largest bourbon selections in London and offer tasting flights.

3. Soho
- Why stay here: It’s the epicenter of London’s nightlife and dining scene, packed with cocktail bars, pubs, and great restaurants.
- Close to: Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus are just around the corner, and Oxford Street shopping is a short walk away.
- Vibe: Eclectic and always buzzing. A mix of trendy cafes, music venues, and theaters.
- Best for: Foodies, night owls, and travelers who love an energetic, central base.

- Ham Yard Hotel: Once home to stables and blacksmiths, the site has transformed into one of Soho’s most stylish boutique hotels. The hotel has bold interiors, a rooftop garden, and even a private bowling alley.

- Yauatcha Soho: Located right in the heart of Soho, Yauatcha is a Michelin-starred spot known for excellent dim sum, creative cocktails, and a chic vibe.
- Oorja: Is a cool Indian restaurant serving dishes like lamb curry and mango shrimp. It’s got a chill vibe, great cocktails, and a cozy downstairs spot perfect for casual drinks.
4. Bloomsbury
- Why stay here: Just north of Covent Garden, Bloomsbury is super central but a bit quieter. It’s perfect for walking to major sights while being close to tube stations and the West End.
- Close to: British Museum, Russell Square, Oxford Street, and a quick stroll to Covent Garden or Soho.
- Vibe: Intellectual and chill, with Georgian squares, academic institutions, and a literary history. Less hectic than Covent Garden but still vibrant.
- Best for: Travelers who want a central spot with a more relaxed feel, museum buffs, or those who like a mix of calm and convenience.

- Bloomsbury Hotel: Bloomsbury is in a fabulous location right by the British Museum. The interiors are stunning, the staff are all top-notch (I was VERY impressed by them), and the Coral Lounge is a must-visit for drinks….this room is gorgeous!

Nearby Restaurants
Dalloway Terrace: A chic, garden-style spot that feels like a hidden escape in the middle of the city. It’s perfect for enjoying a glass of wine with friends or looking for a stylish date night setting. It is one of London’s most Instagram-worthy places to eat and drink.
The Coral Room: I fell in love with this elegant cocktail bar. I inspired by the 1920’s and has been vivid coral walls and Murano glass chandeliers, not to mention great mojitos!

Choosing the right neighborhood can make your London trip so much easier (and way more fun). These four areas put you close to the big sights, great food, and easy Tube connections.
