The Amalfi Coast is my favorite place that I’ve ever been. I could go back every year for the rest of my life, and it would never get old. I love the vibe, the culture, the charming towns, the beauty, the feeling that comes over me when I’m there – I LOVE IT ALL! I dream of owning a home there. If someone who had never been to Europe asked me where they should take their first trip, my #1 recommendation would be the Amalfi Coast.

There is so much to do on the AC. Here are some of my favorites:

Take a day trip to Capri: Book a small group tour and enjoy a day on the water, swimming in the glowing water of the Blue Grotto, and visiting the charming island of Capri.

Visit Amalfi and Ravello via the Red Bus: Hop on the Red Bus and visit the picturesque towns of the Amalfi Coast at your leisure.

Visit Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone: Explore these two historic estates and their beautiful gardens, while taking in some of the most breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast.

Take a day trip to the ancient city of Pompeii: Pompeii is a must visit and I recommend doing a tour in order to get the full understanding of the history. It is a very interesting look at the sophistication of the Ancient Romans and a city frozen in time due to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius

Do some shopping: Enjoy a bit of shopping in the many Positano boutiques, where some of the specialties include handmade leather sandals, artisan jewelry, and colorful Italian ceramics.

Try the Limoncello: Indulge in a Limoncello tasting to sample the region’s famous lemon liqueur, made from the zest of local lemons.

Hike the Path of the Gods: Feeling Energetic? Hike the clifftop trail above the Amalfi Coast and take in the panoramic views of the Mediterranean below.

Take a cooking class: Learn to make authentic Italian pizza, Tiramisu and Gnocchi.

Villa Gabrisa

Hotel Class: 4-Star

Style: Intimate, Mediterranean

Hotel Villa Gabrisa is a family-run boutique hotel located in the cliffs of Positano and boasting some pretty awesome views. The rooms in the hotel are lovely, but the terraces overlooking the Mediterranean are the star of the show. The hotel also has a popular restaurant that is perfect for a romantic date night.

I would not recommend renting a car for the AC. Roads are winding with steep cliff drops and parking is difficult. Towns themselves are walkable, and when getting from one to another, public transportation, including buses and ferries is convenient and affordable. Taxis can be very expensive.

Positano

La Scalinatella – La Scalinatella is a fine dining establishment with a “sophisticated Mediterranean” design style. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Prices are on the higher side, but the food is amazing, and it is apparent that the chef is very thoughtful with the menu items.

Buca di Bacco – A great casual place to grab lunch. Great view, friendly staff, and some pretty bomb calamari.

La Tagliata – A family-run restaurant set high up in the hills of Positano. There is no menu, just whatever fresh find they purchase that day. It’s quite a big meal and the views are out of this world. They also provide pick-up and drop-off from your accommodation.

Capri

La Zagara – While I’ve never dined at La Zagara, I’m just dying to go here. I read about it a few years ago, and I can’t even imagine how good it smells to be dining in a lemon tree orchard. If you’ve been to La Zagara, tell us about it in the comments.

Ravello

Rossellini’s – Perfect location, sensational food in a fine dining atmosphere. This Michelan-star gem specializes in fresh seafood and menu changes regularly.

#1 – Wear comfortable shoes. I cannot stress this enough. YOU WILL WALK A LOT. Comfy shoes are your friend.

#2 – Purchase travel insurance. You never know when life’s going to throw you a curve ball.

#3 – Take the time to learn a few Italian greetings such as “buongiorno” (good morning), “buonasera” (good evening), and “grazi” (thank you).

#4 – Popular restaurants and tours book well in advance, so be sure to make advanced dining and tour reservations.

#5 – Visit off-peak. The Amalfi Coast, from April through October, is going to be busy. It’s unavoidable. However, I would suggest just avoiding July and August, when many Europeans are on holiday.

The Amalfi Coast and Sorrento are truly a slice of paradise, offering stunning natural beauty in an unforgettable location. Pack your bags and get ready to fall in love with the enchanting allure of the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento!
