Shore House at The Del — A Relaxed, Coastal Escape in Coronado

If you’re dreaming of a laid-back beach getaway with East Coast resort charm tucked along the Southern California coastline, Shore House at The Del delivers — though there are a few things to know before you book.

The Shore House at the Del is part of the legendary Hotel Del Coronado. It is a luxury beachfront resort, but with its own quieter, residential feel. You’re tucked slightly away from the bustling main hotel, yet still steps from the beach, pools, and resort amenities. I’ve always loved walking around the Hotel Del and along the beach. It’s actually where I got engaged, so staying at The Shores made this trip feel like a full-circle moment.

Rooms, Villas & Pricing

Rooms at The Shores feel bright, fresh, and thoughtfully designed with a modern coastal aesthetic. They definitely gave that Cape Cod vibe. We stayed in a double queen guest room, which had a super comfortable bed with soft linens (truly cloud-level comfort), a Nespresso machine for easy in-room coffee, and luxe Moulton Brown bath products.

I especially loved the private patio off our room — perfect for morning coffee or a glass of wine at sunset.

Some ground-floor rooms also offer upgraded outdoor spaces with cozy seating areas and fire pits. These would be ideal for families or groups who want extra space to relax together after the beach.

Fun Extras, Dining, and Resort Details

One of my favorite ways to explore Coronado is by renting bikes and cruising around the island. It honestly feels like Mayberry with palm trees. The streets are charming, quiet, and made for biking. You’ll spot cute neighborhoods, waterfront parks, and historic homes as you ride around.

The Shores also offers fun activities like outdoor movies, s’mores setups by the firepits, surf lessons, and more.

Dining Options Around The Del

Between The Shore House, Beach Village, and the main Hotel Del Coronado, there are plenty of dining options to explore right on the property. Think casual beachfront cafes, cocktail bars with ocean views, and upscale restaurants for date nights or special occasions.

During busy weekends or peak holidays, the hotel restaurants fill up fast, so I definitely recommend making reservations in advance. But even if you venture off-property, Coronado is super walkable, and you’ll find plenty of great spots nearby

Villas at The Shores

For those traveling with family or in larger groups, The Shores also offers one, two, and three-bedroom villas. These villas are complete with separate living areas, full kitchens, and generous patios or balconies. Definitely perfect for extended stays or those looking for more of a home-away-from-home experience. Many of the villas have ocean views and upgraded outdoor seating.

Typical Pricing:
Rates start around $700 per night for standard guest rooms and increase from there, especially for oceanfront views, larger suites, or multi-bedroom villas. Of course, prices climb higher during peak seasons like summer, holidays, or special events.

Parking & Resort Fees
Just something to keep in mind — self-parking for resort guests is $50 per night, and valet parking runs $85 per night. There’s also a $50 daily resort fee, which covers Wi-Fi, access to the fitness center, beach yoga (when available), in-room streaming, and more. Part of that fee also goes toward the Historic Preservation Fund to help maintain the historic Hotel Del Coronado.

Pool, Beach & What to Expect

I arrived early, around noon, and while check-in wasn’t until 3 PM, the staff happily stored my luggage so I could head straight to the pool. Poolside service was excellent. Our servers were funny, friendly and attentive, and we enjoyed cocktails and snacks under the sun.

A quick note on cabanas:
I nearly reserved one online for $450 but decided to wait and I’m glad I did. In person, the cabanas felt much smaller than expected, with just a sofa, small fridge, and TV inside — no space for loungers. Definitely not worth the splurge in my opinion, when the regular loungers by the pool work just fine.

No biggie but wanted to mention that for a property in this price category, I was a little surprised by some missing details poolside. There’s no staff setting up loungers. It’s very much a grab-your-own-towel situation — and there weren’t any of the small luxury touches I’ve seen at similar resorts, like chilled towels, popsicles, or face spritzes.

Pool & Beach Access:
Guests of The Shores can use both the Shores pool and the main Hotel Del Coronado pool. If you’re staying at The Del, you only have access to the Del pool — so Shores guests actually get more flexibility.

Your stay also includes two complimentary loungers on the beach, with options to rent additional chairs or upgrade to a shaded double lounger for more space and comfort.

The Atmosphere & Area

The overall vibe at The Shores completely won us over. It has that crisp, New England resort look — coastal, clean, and beautifully updated. Everything feels modern, bright, and easygoing, making it a perfect setting to unwind with friends or family.

We also wandered through the Hotel Del Coronado, which never disappoints. We browsed the boutiques and gift shops and were happy to hear the hotel just completed a major multi-million-dollar renovation to enhance its iconic charm.

Since we visited during the busy 4th of July holiday week, the on-site restaurants were packed. Instead, we opted to walk across the street to The Bluewater Boathouse, which turned out to be the perfect call — great food, easy atmosphere, and just steps from the resort.

Final Thoughts

The Shores at The Del offers the best of both worlds — coastal luxury with a quieter, more residential vibe, plus easy access to one of California’s most iconic beachfront resorts. Expect bright, stylish rooms, family-friendly villa options, a beautiful beach, and plenty of sunshine. It’s still a fantastic spot to unwind, reconnect, and enjoy Coronado’s classic beach town charm.
