Plus, heading there early means you can sip your Glühwein without getting stuck in the evening rush.

HAMBURG
Hamburg turns into a festive winter city during the holidays, with several Christmas markets spread across its historic center, waterfront, and popular neighborhoods. Here’s a rundown of the best-known markets to check out:
Market Dates:
November 25 – December 23, 2025
Market Hours:
11:00 AM – 9:00 PM (exact hours vary slightly by market)
Historic Christmas Market at Rathausplatz
Iconic & Traditional | Grand Setting | Large Market
Set against the backdrop of Hamburg’s impressive Town Hall (Rathaus), this is the city’s most famous market. Expect rows of charming wooden stalls selling everything from handmade gifts to festive treats and, of course, plenty of Glühwein (mulled wine). The flying Santa sleigh over the square adds extra magic, especially for first-time visitors. Great for shopping, atmosphere, and photo ops.
Fleetinsel Christmas Market
Romantic Waterfront | Smaller, Relaxed
Tucked between historic canals near the Fleetinsel area, this charming little market is known for its cozy vibe and beautiful setting by the water. You’ll find local crafts, mulled wine, and snacks, all with fewer crowds. It’s perfect for a peaceful market stroll or evening drinks by the harbor lights.
St. Petri Church Christmas Market
Historic & Central | Cozy, Local Feel
Set outside Hamburg’s oldest church, this market offers a slightly quieter atmosphere but still has that festive charm. Handmade gifts, traditional snacks, and seasonal drinks are all on offer, just steps from the bustling Rathausplatz market. A nice little spot to visit between bigger markets.
Santa Pauli Christmas Market
Quirky & Grown-Up | St. Pauli District | Entertainment Focus
Hamburg’s Reeperbahn area gets its own adult-friendly Christmas market with live music, mulled wine, and more mature (and cheeky) holiday stalls. It’s festive, fun, and a bit different — best suited for adults looking for nightlife with a seasonal twist.
Winterwald (Winter Forest) on Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz
Family-Friendly | Urban Forest Theme
This market transforms the city square into a mini winter forest, complete with pine trees, sparkling lights, and cozy food and drink stalls. It’s laid-back and centrally located, making it easy to visit while exploring Hamburg’s shopping streets.

Fraser Suites Hamburg
This all-suite 5-star hotel combines modern comfort with historic architecture, right in the heart of Hamburg’s Old Town. You’re about a 5-minute walk to Rathausplatz for the city’s main Christmas market and within easy reach of Fleetinsel and St. Petri markets. Spacious rooms, upscale touches, and a top-rated location make it ideal for travelers wanting a premium stay in the middle of the action.
Arrival & Location Tips:
By Train: Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (main station) is well-connected to other German and European cities. From there, the markets at Rathausplatz, St. Petri, and Winterwald are about a 10–15 minute walk or a short subway ride.
By Car: Parking garages are available in the city center, but traffic can be heavy near markets — public transport is recommended, especially on weekends.
By Subway/Bus: Hamburg’s public transport system (HVV) is reliable and extensive. Most major markets are reachable via U-Bahn or bus, with Rathaus, Jungfernstieg, or Mönckebergstraße stations placing you right near the festive hotspots.
Accessibility:
The main Christmas markets in Hamburg, especially at Rathausplatz, St. Petri, and Winterwald, are set in paved pedestrian zones, making them mostly wheelchair and stroller accessible. Some cobblestone streets or uneven surfaces may be present, particularly near the canals or older areas like Fleetinsel. Crowds can make mobility tricky during peak evening hours, so daytime visits are more comfortable for those with mobility needs.

To Be Announced
I loved Stuttgart’s festive Christmas markets! Here’s a list of the main ones:
Stuttgart Christmas Market:
This is the largest and most famous market, located in the city center around the historic Old Castle. It’s one of the oldest Christmas markets in Europe, dating back to 1692. You’ll find a charming mix of traditional wooden stalls, selling everything from handcrafted ornaments to festive treats like roasted almonds and mulled wine. The atmosphere is magical with beautiful lights, a large Christmas tree, and plenty of live music performances.
Stuttgart’s Medieval Christmas Market:
Located near the Old Castle, this market offers a unique experience with a medieval twist. The market features stalls that resemble those from the Middle Ages, selling medieval-inspired goods, food, and crafts. The market is known for its rustic charm, with artisans dressed in period costumes and offering handmade items like candles, pottery, and traditional toys. It’s a great place to step back in time while enjoying the festive cheer.
Christmas Market at Karlsplatz:
The Karlsplatz Christmas Market is a smaller, more intimate market that’s perfect for those looking for a cozy, relaxed vibe. The market is set up in the lovely Karlsplatz square, surrounded by beautiful architecture. Here, you can enjoy a variety of Christmas treats, local handicrafts, and mulled wine. The market has a very local, community feel to it.
Weihnachtsmarkt am Schlossplatz:
This market is another prominent part of Stuttgart’s Christmas celebrations. The location is in front of the grand Neues Schloss (New Palace). It’s part of the main Stuttgart Christmas Market but focuses on high-quality, artisanal products. In addition, you’ll find premium handcrafted items, as well as gourmet food stalls offering a range of seasonal foods. The market is beautifully lit up, adding to the festive atmosphere.
