Accessibility:
Strasbourg is fairly accessible for people with disabilities, especially during the Christmas markets, though there are some things to keep in mind. Here’s a general overview of handicap accessibility:
- Parking: For those driving, there are parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities in several parking garages around the city center, such as Parking Austerlitz and Parking République. These are typically a short walk from the Christmas market areas.
- Pedestrian Zones: The Christmas markets are mostly in pedestrian-only zones, which is good for accessibility. However, cobblestone streets in some areas might pose a challenge. The city has worked on improving wheelchair access in these areas, but it can still be a bit bumpy in some spots.
- Wheelchair Accessibility: Most of the major Christmas market areas, like around the Strasbourg Cathedral and Place Kléber, are accessible with ramps and wide pathways. Many of the larger stalls and attractions are also accessible for those in wheelchairs or with mobility issues.
- Trams and Buses: Strasbourg’s public transport system, CTS, is quite accessible. All trams are wheelchair-friendly, with low floors and ramps for easy boarding. Buses are also accessible, and the city provides priority seating for people with disabilities.
- Accessible Toilets: There are several public toilets around the Christmas markets that are accessible for people with disabilities, especially in major locations like Place Kléber. Be sure to look out for signs indicating accessibility.
Holiday Events:
In addition to the Christmas markets, the Capital of Christmas offers many other holiday activities, many of which are outlined here.
