I realize Hvar is perceived as the party island, but it’s easy to escape that scene and unwind and savor the beauty of Hvar at a leisurely pace. Here is a 7-day itinerary for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy a slow-paced, relaxing adventure on this stunning Croatian island.
Day 1
Morning:
- Arrive in Hvar and check into your accommodation. I recommend this AMAZING VRBO right in the heart of Old Town. Read my review about it here.
- Enjoy breakfast at Fig Café. Located in the heart of Hvar Town, Fig Café has a cozy vibe and delicious breakfast dishes and good coffee.
Afternoon:
- Explore Hvar Town. Stroll through the charming streets, visit St. Stephen’s Square, and check out the Cathedral of St. Stephen.
Evening:
- Enjoy fresh seafood or local specialties for dinner at a Gariful, a fantastic waterfront establishment right by the harbor, so you’ll get gorgeous views as you dine. It’s a great place for a romantic dinner or a relaxed meal with friends, all while enjoying the lively vibe and stunning scenery. The food is some of the best in Hvar and the atmosphere makes Gariful a must-visit in Hvar.
Day 2
Morning:
- Enjoy breakfast at Riva Marina. It’s a nice place to start your day with a view of the marina.
- Not far from Riva Marina you will find Pokonji Dol, a beach with clear waters and relaxed atmosphere. Spend a few hours at this lovely spot enjoying time by the sea.
Afternoon:
- Enjoy lunch at Mizarola, situated in Hvar Town, and serving up pizzas and Mediterranean dishes, in a relaxed and casual atmosphere.
- Rent a kayak and have a little fun on the water.
Evening:
- Return to town for dinner at Passarola, a popular spot in Hvar Town. They serve delicious Mediterranean-inspired dishes in a charming, historic setting. It’s a great place to enjoy dinner in a cozy atmosphere.
- Enjoy after dinner drinks at Sidro, which is just a short walk from Passarola. It’s a nice place for a casual drink in a laid-back atmosphere.
Day 3
Morning:
- After breakfast, take the ferry from Hvar to Korcula, which usually takes around 1.5 hours.
- Wander the charming medieval streets of Korcula Old Town.
Afternoon:
- Grab lunch at Adio Mare—it’s right on the waterfront promenade and perfect for seafood lovers. They whip up some fantastic Mediterranean dishes, and you can sit outside to take in the lovely sea views while you eat. It’s a great spot to enjoy a relaxed meal with a beautiful backdrop.
- Visit the Marco Polo House and the St. Mark’s Cathedral.
Evening:
- Return to Hvar by ferry (be sure to check the ferry schedule in advance so that you don’t miss the last ferry).
- Enjoy dinner at Dalmatino, a great spot in Hvar Town to eat fresh seafood. The Mediterranean salad and grilled octopus are must-tries. The outdoor terrace makes it a perfect place for a relaxed meal with a pleasant vibe.
Day 4
Morning/Afternoon:
- Hop on a boat tour to explore the Pakleni Islands or Vis—they’re both amazing spots. If you’re up for a bit more adventure, you might consider renting your own boat and setting out on your own. You can check out my review of our day on the water here.
Evening:
- After a day of fun on the water, you’ll probably want something laid-back for dinner. Check out The Top Bar—it’s a great spot for a casual bite with light snacks, sandwiches, and salads. It’s perfect for a quick, relaxed meal and cocktails.
Day 5
Morning:
- Have breakfast at Hula Hula Beach Bar. This place offers a laid-back atmosphere with a great selection of breakfast options.
- Visit the Hvar Fortress for panoramic views of the town and sea. After, spend time shopping for souvenirs or revisiting favorite spots.
Afternoon:
- Enjoy a light lunch at San Marco. Also in Hvar Town, this restaurant has a range of Croatian dishes. It’s a relaxed spot where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch. For a standout dish, try their grilled calamari—it’s absolutely delicious!
- Treat yourself to a massage at Sensori Spa located within the Adriana Hotel (I had one of the best massages I’ve ever had here – Tension Sports Massage as well as the Foot Massage).
Evening:
- Enjoy a great dinner at Konoba Menego. It’s a cozy spot with delicious Dalmatian dishes and a friendly atmosphere. Be sure to try their slow-cooked beef stew; it’s a real standout. After your meal, swing by Hvar Pub for drinks in a relaxed setting. It’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a drink after dinner.
Day 6
Morning:
- Drive or take a bus to Stari Grad, about 20 minutes from Hvar Town.
- Visit the Stari Grad Plain, a UNESCO World Heritage site with ancient agricultural practices.
Afternoon:
- Explore Stari Grad and have lunch at a local restaurant.
- Visit the Tvrdalj Castle and its beautiful garden.
Evening:
- Return to Hvar Town and enjoy dinner near the harbor at Restaurant Adriana. They serve Mediterranean cuisine with beautiful views of the marina. After dinner take a relaxing evening stroll along the charming waterfront.
Day 7
Morning/Afternoon:
- Join a local wine tour to explore Hvar’s vineyards. Many tours offer tastings of local wines and a chance to learn about the winemaking process. It’s a great way to enjoy the island’s countryside and sample some local flavors.
Evening:
- Return to Hvar Town and enjoy a final dinner at Paradise Garden. Enjoy dinner on their rooftop terrace and select from a menu focused on fresh seafood and local ingredients.
- Spend your last evening soaking in the stylish Bar Tomic. It’s a bit of a walk from Paradise Garden but offers a cozy, sophisticated atmosphere.
